“In order to stick with it, you’ve got to choose something you actually want to do, and that will work with your schedule and lifestyle.”
― Melissa Steginus
Every day we get up in the morning, brush our teeth, make a coffee or a tea, travel to work, and then sleep to follow the same thing the next day.
We are habitual creatures who wake up each day to do the same thing again.
If we can create this pattern for ourselves, why can’t we curate a healthy lifestyle pattern and indulge in it every day?
As per the theory put out by behavioural science, most human beings try to create healthy habits inappropriately. There’s a sudden rush of excitement, and we get into action without setting our bodies for it, which leads to failed attempts to create healthy habits.
“When we know what we don’t want, we can give full attention to coming into alignment with what we do want.”
― Leonie H. Mattison
So, if you want to set yourself towards building healthy habits, here are tips that you need to follow:
Stack your habits
According to experts, the best method to build healthier habits is to tie them with old ones. Look at everything you do in an existing day, and then find ways to healthify the practices to create positive and new ones.
How do you start that? So, while you have your cup of coffee every morning, meditate for a minute right after or before having coffee as preferable. When you associate habits with one another, you tend to stick to them because it is tied to what you are already used to doing.
Do it every day until it becomes a habit
Getting up every day and brushing our teeth is not something we do out of interest. Besides it being an essential hygiene routine, we also do it because it’s a habit, and we are inclined to do it. Even when you would not feel like getting up and brushing your teeth, you would still do it.
Take it one step at a time
We make another great mistake while building new habits is expecting too much from ourselves. Overeating will always lead to indigestion. Your body positively responds when you give it a little at a time. Sustainable changes last longer, and that happens when you take one step at a time.
“Healthy habits are learned in the same way as unhealthy ones – through practice.”
~ Wayne Dyer
